When would the Raid Trigger go off on Howl of the Horde?

Asked by ZenSix 9 years ago

Let's say I cast Howl of the Horde in my first main phase and then go into combat. I declare attackers and i cast Trumpet Blast. Due to the wording on Howl of the Horde Would the raid trigger actually go off or does that have to be in effect when i cast Howl of the Horde?

Raid isn't a triggered ability. It's a static ability that adds an effect if you've attacked with a creature before the spell resolves. If you cast Howl of the Horde in your first main phase, there's no way for the raid condition to be true, so you won't get an extra copy (even if you cast the next spell after you attack).

The Raid effect would not happen.

Howl of the Horde creates a delayed triggered ability to copy your next instant or sorcery. Its Raid ability creates another, but it will only be created in the first place if you have attacked with a creature when it resolves.

Correction: raid is an ability word. In this case, the spell just has an extra effect that's only relevant if raid is "on."
