Wheel of Sun and Moon and Commanders

Asked by Profet93 7 years ago

If I enchant my opponent with Wheel of Sun and Moon and then destroy his commander, does his commander automatically go to the bottom of his library, or can he choose to put it back into the command zone?

Again, sorry for all of the questions! Thanks as always!

Whenever a commander changes zones, its owner has the opportunity to instead move their commander to the command zone. This is a replacement effect. Wheel of Sun and Moon, is also a replacement effect.

When two or more replacement effects attempt to modify a single event or player, that player or controller of the event being affected decides which replacement effect to apply. The one not chosen then is applied if it can, otherwise it has no effect.

Your opponent may choose to either put their commander in the command zone, or choose to put their commander on the bottom of their library.

Thank you for thorough explanation. That is a shame, as I was hoping to have found a way to tuck a commander :/

At least it is still a good card for graveyard hate.

There's no longer any way to tuck a commander since the new tuck rule was enforced. Only way to do so now is if the owner chooses to, or you gain control of their turn and make the choice for them. (See Mindslaver)

I thought so. I'm just frustrated versing my friend's Meren deck which is basically a Pre-con with a few important upgrades. I was thinking of using the Wheel of Sun and Moon to hopefully tuck his commander but that is not the case.

Graveyard hate is still a good option, so it's a good SB cad. Thank you for being as helpful as always

Well, I'm assuming you're playing in both white and green, so investing in a Rest in Peace and Ground Seal would be worthwhile.

You're correct, but I'm looking for more targeted Graveyard hate rather than sweepers. the reason is because my deck is based on the graveyard as well to a large extent. I wanted some GY hate because my friend plays a Meren deck and his GY shenanigans are quite annoying. I included Scavenging Ooze because it works as both Graveyard hate, some lifegain, and is cheap

Withered Wretch and Tormod's Crypt would work then.
