What order do things happen if I sacrifice Dark Revenant with Garruk, the Veil-Cursed?

Asked by Tarv 9 years ago

If I have a Dark Revenant on the battlefield, and I sacrifice it using Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip 's -1 ability, do I: A.) search my library for a creature card, put it into my hand, shuffle my library and then put Dark Revenant on top. B.) Put Dark Revenant on top of my library, search for a creature card, put it into my hand and then shuffle my library. C.) It would be my choice of what order these things happen or D.) None of the above.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

A.

The sacrifice is part of Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip 's ability's resolution. You will make the sacrifice, triggering Dark Revenant 's ability, and then you will continue to resolve Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip 's ability. Dark Revenant 's ability will be placed onto the stack after Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip 's ability has fully resolved.

End result: You sacrifice, search, shuffle, and then put Dark Revenant on top of your library.

It's worth noting that if the sacrifice were part of the ability's cost, Dark Revenant 's ability would trigger during the activation process and be put onto the stack above Garruk, the Veil-Cursed  Flip 's ability.

In no situation is it possible to choose the order of the two abilities. A triggered ability that triggers during the activation or casting of another ability or a spell will always end up on the stack above the original ability or spell. A triggered ability that triggers during the resolution of an ability or spell will always wait until the resolution is complete before it (the new ability) is placed onto the stack.

The only time at which you choose the order in which abilities are placed onto the stack is when you control multiple triggered abilities that have triggered since the last time a player received priority.
