Asked by Trasox 8 years ago

If I have two or more heroic creatures with the same name(Agent of the Fates for example) on battlefield and I target one with a spell can the other/s creature when the same name use his heroic ability?Last thing: is Llanowar Augur eff considered as a spell when i use it? (i think not but am not sure)Sorry for those questions, i've started playing magic two months ago.Thanks.

201.4. Text that refers to the object it's on by name means just that particular object and not any other objects with that name, regardless of any name changes caused by game effects.

Only the one being targeted will react with his heroic ability. The other one does do nothing at that moment.

Llanowar Augur has an activated ability.

An activated ability is an ability that can be activated by a player by paying a cost. The cost can be almost anything, such as sacrificing a permanent, paying mana, paying life, or tapping the permanent with the ability (To Tap.png). Activated abilities are usually found on permanents, but can sometimes be used on cards in other zones, such as the graveyard or a player's hand.

Welcome to Magic!

A good way to remembering this is whenever a card mentions itself in its text, you can replace its name with the phrase: "this card" to avoid confusion like this.

Heroic: whenever you cast a spell that targets "this card"... Etc.

Llanowar Augur: sacrifice "this card".. Etc.

As for your second question, all cards are spells while they're on the stack, but Llanowar Augur becomes a permanent when it resolves from the stack. Cards with activated abilites can only activate them from the battlefield (normally).
