What exactly gets copied when I copy a creature?

Asked by Mr_Radical 6 years ago

Just need an explanation of copying. Does copy just mean "has the same name, colors, mana cost, types, subtypes, abilities, and power/toughness/starting loyalty"? Or do other things copy over as well (tapped/untapped, conditions, counters, being targeted, etc)?

In particular, if I copy one of Chandra, Flamecaller's 3/1s with Wake the Reflections, does the new 3/1 exile at my end step like the other two?

706.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original objects characteristics ... The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face-down status, and by as . . . enters the battlefield and as . . . is turned face up abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.

And for your specific question; no, the copy will have no delayed trigger associated with it to exile it EOT.
