What counterspells counter Approach of the Second Sun

I'm trying to understand if the Approach of the Second Sun needs to resolve to allow me to win the game.

Just as a side note, you can do this combo:
Play Approach of the Second Sun, then play Failure on it. (Link doesn't work right now, but Failure costs and returns target spell to its owner's hand)
Approach of the Second Sun will not resolve, and return your hand. However, you did the action of casting it.
Next turn, play Approach of the Second Sun again, and you win having met the requirement to cast it last turn.
I like this workaround, even if it requires a ridiculous amount of mana to pull off.

If you throw in Baral, Chief of Compliance You can do this combo for just 7 mana which is the original casting cost of Approach of the Second Sun

Yes, it will need to resolve for either of its effects to work (either gaining 7 life and being placed into your library or winning the game if it's the second time you've cast it). However, if the first casting is countered, and then you either recover the card or cast another copy, the second casting will win the game if it resolves (assuming you cast it from your hand, etc).
