Warstorm Surge - entering the battlefield

Asked by zretrareo27 7 years ago

For the cards Warstorm Surge and Electropotence - I was thinking that anytime a creature gets Act of Treason that they would deal damage. But apparently, changing control does not count as entering the battlefield, is that correct? Thanks in advance.

"Enters the battlefield" means to move from another zone (like hand, graveyard, exile, library) to the battlefield. Moving from one side of the battlefield to the other does not cause the permanent to change zones, as it never leaves the battlefield.

Think of it as the creature literally walking across the battlefield to the other side. It didn't go to any other place, it didn't leave the battlefield, it just moved to the other side.

Another way to think about it that is mechanically accurate is that there is a confrontation happening and the creatures are actually all on the same field distributed randomly having their own fights and trying to get past one another to attack the summoning mage directly. If you were to turn one of the opposing creatures to your cause he doesn't move at all. His objective is to now attack the other mage and his previous allies will try to stop him.

The battlefield is a shared zone. The separation of the physical representation is just for convenience in playing the game. To the game there are no "sides" of the battlefield.
