Uses for Rapid Hybridization?

Asked by UniqueUserID 9 years ago

Been thinking about this card recently, could you please tell me if these uses are legal/allowed?

1) Can I use Rapid Hybridization on my own creature at some point after I declare my blockers to block a creature AND spawn myself a token? As far as I remember the attacking creature is now attacking nothing, and I can use my 3/3 token freely next turn. Bonus points if it's possible to kill an attacker and also convert myself to a token!

2) Bereavement is on the field. I use Rapid Hybridization on a creature the enemy controls, THEN cast another Rapid Hybridization on the new green token. Do they discard a card?

3) The enemy casts Lightning Axe and will kill my creature, I cast Rapid Hybridization to convert my creature to a token. Since this was not the original target does the enemy spell fizzle out?

1) Yes, but you would have to destroy your creature before combat damage is dealt (assuming it would die in combat), so your opponent's creature won't be dealt damage. The attacking creature is not "attacking nothing". It still attacks you or a planeswalker you control, but it is blocked. This doesn't change when the blocking creature leaves the battlefield.

2) Yes, because creature tokens "touch" the graveyard when they die.

3) Yes. The spell lost its target and is countered.
