Two question does Bloodline Keeper Flip effect to tap and create vampires trigger a Door of Destinies counter? Also can you tap it during your oppenents turn to create a token?

Asked by Jakkel 6 years ago

Just looking to see if the doors are worth 4 in a deck. If I can create the token during opponents turn and get a 2/2 vampire that also triggers a Doors counter that can effect attacking/blocking significantly. Just wanting to ensure its within the rules.

Please link cards with double square brackets:

Bloodline Keeper  Flip

Lord of Lineage

Door of Destinies

You may activate Lord of Lineage on your opponent's turn. Flipping is not casting, so Door does not get a counter

Looking to see if I can tap to create a vampire token on opponent turn. If the creation of the token triggers door?

Neither flipping Bloodline Keeper  Flip nor putting a token into play with his ability will trigger the Door of Destinies. It only looks for when you cast a creature, not when a creature comes into play. Casting means paying the mana, putting it on the stack, giving your opponent the chance to counter it etc. Creating a token bypasses that and puts the creature directly into play. The Keeper flipping doesn't involve him ever leaving or entering playing, he just changes forms.

I wanted to add a bit of clarification to ClockworkSwordfish's post. While correct that transforming/activated abilities do not count as casting, it is not true that Bloodline Keeper's ability bypasses the stack or does not give your opponent to counter. All activated abilities that are not mana abilities use the stack, and opponents can counter these abilities.

Thank you all for the answer on the doors effect. Can I still create a token during my opponents turn assuming Bloodline Keeper  Flip is untapped at that point?

Correct. Unless otherwise stated, activated abilities can be used any time you have priority, including an opponents' turn. Your best bet would be to keep him untapped for use as a potential blocker, then tap when your opponent enters their end step. You can also use his transform ability on an opponent's turn.

Note, if you manage to play Bloodline Keeper and transform him the same turn he has been played, he will still have summoning sickness, and thus you cannot use his ability until your following turn.
