Turning face up and Nyx Weaver graveyard interaction

Asked by Prima 9 years ago

In my newest deck, Taigam's Revolution, I was wondering about milling my self out. If I milled out a Ruthless Ripper, would that count as it being turned face-up? Also, if I milled out Nyx Weaver, could I use it's ability from the graveyard? I think the answer is yes on both, but would like to receive clarity.

I'm fairly sure morph creatures are considered face-up in all zones besides when they are morphed on the battlefield. Also unless an ability specifically says you can activate it from a graveyard, you usually cannot activate it.

Just to help clarify.

Face up and face down are statuses like tapped/untapped. When as card is not on the battlefield, or stack for morph, cards are all in their default positions. So a morph card is face up anywhere but the stack and battlefield. They are only face down on the battefield/stack if they were cast using their morph alternate cost.

TL;DR- Think of face up/face down like tapped/untapped. A creature wouldn't be tapped while it was in the graveyard.

To answer your second question (the one about using an ability from the graveyard), no. Unless otherwise specified, abilities of permanent cards function only while those cards are permanents (that is, while they're on the battlefield).

Thanks for all the answers. Nyx Weaver would probably be worth about 3 dollars if you could exile him from the graveyard
