Tokens. How do they differ from card permanents?
Asked by Mythwind 6 years ago
For example, 2 questions: 1 - If I use the ability of Frenetic Sliver on a sliver token, (and I win the flip) does it come back?
2 - If I have persist or undying on a token that is about to die, does it come back? (assuming thoughness would allow)

To add, a token that phases out also ceases to exist, even though according to the game it is still in the battlefield and hasn't changed zones.

Great answers, thanks a lot to both. I had not heard about phasing in a long time.

it's also worth mentioning that tokens always have a CMC of 0

Except for when they don't have a CMC of 0, like ones produced by Spitting Image or Cackling Counterpart.

Correct, that's when you make a copy of something. Forgot about that

If a token leaves the battlefield for any reason, it cannot for any reason return, and will cease to exist. Persist and Undying still trigger, but do nothing on resolution.
Specifically, if an effect changes the token's zone, and then attempts to change it's zone a second time, the second zone change does not occur.
If a token is anywhere other than the battlefield when state based actions are checked (just before a player receives priority), it ceases to exist.
