To what extent does Indestructible work

Asked by Cjstinon 8 years ago

Will giving a creature indestructible make them not die if they are defended by one or more creatures that would normally send them to the graveyard? My plan is to use Blood-Chin Rager which makes my creatures blocked by more than two creatures if one of my warriors is about to be destroyed could I cast Valorous Stance to save them?

702.12b A permanent with indestructible can't be destroyed. Such permanents aren't destroyed by lethal damage, and they ignore the state-based action that checks for lethal damage.

The only way to "destroy" indestructible creatures is to reduce their toughness below zero, exile them, bounce them to their owner's hand, or sacrifice them.

The game's definition of "indestructible" is "can't be destroyed". Only 2 things "destroy" in Magic: lethal damage (damage equal to or greater than a creature's toughness, or any amount of damage from a source with deathtouch), and effects that specifically say "destroy". Indestructible stops these things and nothing else.

In your example your creature would normally be destroyed by the lethal damage that's about to be dealt to it. If you give it indestructible, however, then the damage won't destroy it.
