Teysa triggers interactions with athreos

Asked by Monomanamaniac 4 years ago

So a few questions concerning Teysa Karlov , Teysa, Orzhov Scion and Athreos, God of Passage . First does athreos's effect qualify as a creature dying effect, meaning does a player have to spend 6 life or let me put the creature back into my hand? Secondly, if I put the creature into my hand with athreos, does it still die for teysa, orzhov scion's effect (or similar death effects)

Any creature entering the graveyard from the battlefield will trigger any death triggers. Thanks to Teysa Karlov , those death triggers will trigger twice.

For Athreos, if another creature you own dies, he will trigger (twice if Teysa Karlov is in play). Each trigger will resolve one at a time, so for the first one, your opponent may choose to pay 3 life or let the creature go back to your hand. If they choose to pay 3 life, they (or another opponent) must then choose to pay 3 life again or let it go back to your hand. If they choose to not pay the life for the first trigger, the second will become redundant, as the creature will have been returned to your hand already. (Though an opponent may still choose to pay the 3 life just because).

And secondly, yes, even though the creature returns to your hand, it still died trigger Teysa, Orzhov Scion 's ability.
