Tap creatures before paying mana for Burn at the Stake ?

Suppose I have five Saprolings and Utopia Mycon in play. Can I tap the Saprolings first and then sacfice them to cast Burn at the Stake?

Tapping the creatures is an additional cost, so paying mana and tapping the creatures would happen at the exact same time, eerily similar to convoke.

While that's technically true, it's important to clarify that the mana has to exist in your mana pool before the payments begin. That's what matters here.

601.2f If the total cost includes a mana payment, the player then has a chance to activate mana abilities (see rule 605, "Mana Abilities"). Mana abilities must be activated before costs are paid.
Tapping your creatures is part of the payment process for Burn at the Stake. You must activate mana abilities before costs are paid, so you must choose whether to use your tokens' mana abilities or tap your tokens during the payment.
