Supernatural Stamina

Asked by Tagg 6 years ago

I cast a spell that puts a single -1/-1 counter onto target 1/1 prowess creature my opponent controls. My opponent casts Supernatural Stamina targeting his 1/1 prowess guy triggering prowess making his creature a 2/2 until end of turn while my spell is still on the stack. My spell resolves giving the prowess creature a -1/-1 counter. At the end of my turn the prowess creature will die due to the +1/+1 prowess trigger falling off but does Supernatural Stamina bring back his creature to the battlefield or is this checked prior to the +1/+1 counter falling off?

The relevant rule here is from the cleanup step instructions:

514.2. Second, the following actions happen simultaneously: all damage marked on permanents (including phased-out permanents) is removed and all “until end of turn” and “this turn” effects end. This turn-based action doesn’t use the stack.

During the cleanup step, all things that last "until end of turn" go away simultaneously. That includes the +1/+1 from prowess and the effects of Supernatural Stamina. After both of those effects have ended state based actions will be checked, and the creature will go to the graveyard normally.

Remember to link to cards.

Supernatural Stamina

Let's look at the stack. From bottom to top:

-1/-1 counter spell

Supernatural Stamina

Prowess

Prowess resolves, making that creature into a 2/2

Supernatural Stamina resolves, making it 4/2.

Your counter thing resolves, leaving it at 3/1.

Looking at the cleanup step: First, players discard to hand size. Next, "until the end of turn" effects end. So the prowess creature becomes a 2/0. It remains on the battlefield. Finally, the game performs state based actions. The game notices a 0 toughness creature and places it in the graveyard. Since Supernatural Stamina has worn off, it cannot revive.

Note that this situation does not involve a +1/+1 counter.

So i read your breakdown of bottom to top loved it looked correct but question. Doesn't supernatural stamina state the next time it dies so there for it is just a pump spell untill the -1/-1 counter hits then it kicks in and comes back taped if not killed just gets 2/0 so therefore no it would not kill it but still would not get to attack so prowless and 2/0 really just saved the 1/1 guy... The -1/-1 counter will come off from its effect as well by leaving battlefield same applys if u have +1/+1 counters?
