Spoiled Card Temur Sabertooth and tokens

Asked by Korombos 9 years ago

Will the Temur Sabertooth get its indestructibility if the permanent you choose for it is a token? I am confused by the "If you do" language, since a token can't exist in the hand zone.

Yes, it still works if you use a token.

The "if you do" clause is three so that you don't have to choose a creature to return until the spell resolves. (you would have to choose on cast if it said "target")

the token goes to your hand, immediately ceases to exist, and the sabertooth gets indestructible

Yes, it works. They just had to word it this way because the decision to return a creature is made on resolution of the ability. You can choose not to return a creature, and the Sabertooth won't get indestructibility.

A token creature can exist in zones beyond the battlefield, it just ceases to exist when state-based actions are checked. They do in fact go to whatever zone they are moved to (like the graveyard, so they count as dying for example)
