Soul Link with Prevent all damage

Hi all, I've been going back and forth with a friend of mine over a couple of cards and their effects. I have the enchantment Soul Link, and I have it attached to my Beacon Hawk card, then I place a Sandskin on him as well. Would I gain any life from Soul Link even though any combat damage that Beacon Hawk would do would essentially be prevented by the Sandskin? Also, since the damage is prevented, would I be able to untap target creature from Beacon Hawk's ability?

If Beacon Hawk were to be unblocked, all damage would be prevented by Sandskin. The hawk would not deal combat damage, so it's untap ability would not trigger. Since no damage is being dealt, Soul Link would also gain you no life.
