sorin lord of innstrad's -6

Asked by swkelly89 9 years ago

can i use Sorin, Lord of Innistrad's - 6 and target himself returning him to the battlefield, or will he be put into the graveyard due to stare based action before the ability resolves?

When you activate an ability, you must choose targets before paying costs. Even if Sorin, Lord of Innistrad has 6 loyalty counters on it when you activate the ability, it will not be placed in the graveyard until the ability has finished being activated, long after you choose targets.

Additionally, the ability says "other planeswalkers," so you can't target it to begin with :-)

You can target him if he somehow becomes a creature. Also he must be on the battlefield when the ability resolves to be destroied and returned. So you must get him to 7, than make him become creature and then you can target him with his -6 to get him back with 3 loyalty (and ready to be activated again).
