Siren Stormtamer vs Explosion

Asked by chosenone124 5 years ago

My opponent has a Tempest Djinn and a Siren Stormtamer .

I have an Expansion / Explosion and a Blink of an Eye .

If I cast Explosion on Djinn x=4, and my opponent activates Siren Stormtamer to counter my Explosion, will casting Blink of An Eye on Djinn let me draw cards off the Explosion? After all, the ability Stormtamer is countering is not technically targeting my opponent or their creatures, it's only targeting me (since the Djinn is in their hand).

i tried to google this for you, and ironically i think i came across your reddit post about this same question lol. i'm pretty sure this works though, because the Siren Stormtamer 's target is no longer legal.

After Blink of an Eye resolves, your Explosion will no longer be targeting a creature your opponent controls. Because of this, Siren Stormtamer ’s ability is now targeting an illegal target and will fizzle when it resolves.

As for your Explosion, it will resolve and do as much as it can, which will be drawing you cards. NOTE: the only reason your Explosion still resolves it because it still has a legal target (you). If for some reason all of it’s target became illegal, it would fizzle as well.
