Same time trigger & indestructible planeswalker

Asked by darkmatter32x 7 years ago

My opponent controls The Rack and I control Necrogen Mists

Both trigger at the beginning of the upkeep, which one goes on the stack first?

Do I use time stamp for this scenario?

Does an indestructible planeswalker still loose a loyalty counter even if an effect makes it indestructible? ie Soul of New Phyrexia

No, you use APNAP order - the active players trigger go on the stack first and resolve last. So, if you have 3 cards in hand, The rack will resolve first and deal 0 damage. Then Mists will resolve and you will discard down to 2.

For the second question - yes.

Indestructible does not prevent damage in any way. It just says "lethal damage does not cause this creature to die". It works similarly with PWs. So, the PW will still lose counters and possibly die in the cleanup step of that turn if has 0 or less. That is why abilities like Gideon, Ally of Zendikar's +1 specifically mention "prevent all damage" instead of/in addition to "indestructible".

As the active player (your upkeep) you get to choose the order in which you want your ability to resolve.

Even indestructible planeswalkers will still die if they reach 0 loyalty much like how indestructible creatures still die if their toughness reaches 0.

@guerillarage: That's only correct if you control both abilities. In this case, one player controls one ability and another player controls another. The abilities will be put onto the stack in APNAP order as described by Boza: the player whose turn it is will put their ability onto the stack first, then the other player's ability will be put onto the stack above it.
