Rules on ordering your graveyard

Asked by Shane 6 years ago

I was looking at a no land legacy dredge deck and came across the card Balustrade Spy. The deck used lots of cards that interact with the order of cards in your yard. So I'm wondering if I reveal my deck with the spy, is there any rules saying what order I put those cards into my yard or no? Or can I just order them to be bonkers?

Also how serious is it if I change the order of cards in my graveyard? And does it even matter if there are not cards in the format I'm playing that interact with the order of cards in graveyards?

Graveyard order matters cards will really only be in Legacy, Vintage, EDH, and other pre-Urza formats. These rules should probably answer your questions.

404.2. Each graveyard is kept in a single face-up pile. A player can examine the cards in any graveyard at any time but normally cant change their order. Additional rules applying to sanctioned tournaments may allow a player to change the order of cards in his or her graveyard.

404.3. If an effect or rule puts two or more cards into the same graveyard at the same time, the owner of those cards may arrange them in any order.

You may choose whatever order you like for the cards to be put into your graveyard. Usually, you can't manipulate the order of your graveyard.
