Root Maze, Karoo Land, and Amulet of Vigor interaction

Asked by kengiczar 8 years ago

Do you get aditional untap effects by playing Root Maze + Amulet of Vigor + Simic Growth Chamber?

Specifically in this scenario what happens when you play the Karoo land turn 2?

Turn 1: Play Amulet of Vigor
Turn 2: Play Root Maze of T1 land. Play Karoo Land.

This other question helped me understand the basics but once you throw in Karoos it goes beyond my knowledge:

Root Maze modifies how artifacts and lands come into play, modifying it to them entering tapped. Amulet of Vigor triggers whenever a permanent enters the battlefield under your control tapped.

Since Simic Growth Chamber also has a replacement effect that modifies how it itself enters the battlefield (tapped), along with the Root Maze, you can decide which one to apply to its entering the battlefield. This does not mean you will get multiple untap/enter the battlefield triggers from Amulet of Vigor, because Simic Growth Chamber only enters the battlefield one time and only untaps one time in this scenario.

614.1d Continuous effects that read [This permanent] enters the battlefield . . . or [Objects] enter the battlefield . . . are replacement effects.

Ah in this case regardless of which "enters play tapped" replacement effect I decide to apply I'll still have to bounce a land due to the other half of Simic Growth Chamber correct?

Correct, Simic Growth Chamber's triggered ability will still happen regardless of which replacement effect is applied first and regardless of if it even entered tapped or untapped.

However, when Simic Growth Chamber enters the battlefield, both it and Amulet of Vigor will trigger. You may decide in what order to have them resolve. If you want the extra mana immediately, have Amulet of Vigor's ability resolve first, untapping Simic Growth Chamber. Then tap the Chamber for while it's own bounce ability is still on the stack. You can then bounce the Chamber to your hand if you so please, or you can bounce your Forest instead.
