Renegade Rallier and Panharmonicon

Asked by Grrvvpp23 6 years ago

How would a revolted Renegade Rallier work if I have a Panharmonicon out? Let's say I crack a Vessel of Volatility triggering revolt and then playing RR, then two ETB abilities would go on the stack, so could I return the vessel with the first one and crack it again before the second one resolves or the ETB triggers would need two targets before I can resolve one of them? Thanks in advance!

The ability would trigger twice, meaning you need to select a target for each ability as you put that ability onto the stack. You won't be able to return the same Vessel of Volatility twice. If you return it with one ability, it'll become a new object and won't be the target of the second ability even if it returns to your graveyard. (Remember that a card becomes a new object when it changes zones.)

The important thing to remember here is targets are selected when a spell or ability is put on the stack.

That means getting the same card back with both triggers won't be possible because the two ETB abilities are put on the stack at the same time and so their targets must also be selected at the same time. If they both target the same card then the first to resolve will do its thing but the second to resolve will fizzle (and so not actually resolve). Even if the vessel is returned to the graveyard before the second ability resolves, it is treated as a new object by the game (whenever it changes zones).
