Regeneration and -1/-1 Effects

Can a creature whos been reduced to 0/0 via -1/-1 effects like Golgari Charm or Massacre Girl be regenerated? I know regeneration removes damage but these effects aren't damage, nor are they permanent counters...

Regenerate's full reminder text reads:
The next time this creature would be destroyed this turn, it isn't. Instead tap it, remove all damage from it, and remove it from combat. Emphasis added.
A creature dying due having 0 toughness, such as with -X/-X effects or counters is not destroyed. As such, Regenerate will not come into effect.
