Redirect and interaction with "each opponent"

Asked by CAPT4INHOWDY 6 years ago

If a card has the words "each opponent/creature.etc." These spells technically target each opponent. Can it be Redirected back to the other team in a two headed giant?Redirect states choose new targets (plural) for "target spell." Target spell meaning the spell of my choosing not specifically a spell that says target.

A spell doesn't target unless it specifically uses the word "target", so a card that does something to "each opponent" doesn't have any targets. You can cast Redirect on it, but it won't have any effect.

"114.9a Just because an object or player is being affected by a spell or ability doesnt make that object or player a target of that spell or ability. Unless that object or player is identified by the word target in the text of that spell or ability, or the rule for that keyword ability, its not a target."

A card with the wording you've described (like Death Cloud) doesn't target anything. Redirecting a spell with no targets won't accomplish anything.
