This seems like a dumb question but, Realmwright's ability ends when it leaves the battlefield, right?

Yes. Unless the ability specifically says it functions in a different zone, it only functions while on the battlefield.

see Gravecrawler or Panglacial Wurm for abilities that function outside of the battlefield.
