Question on Phasing

Asked by DemMeowsephs 4 years ago

I'm trying to see if I should put Cloak of Invisibility in my Voltron deck, but I'm confused with Phasing. Will I still be able to deal commander damage? If I give it phasing is it immediately phased out or not? And on my first untap phase does it phase in or out? ??????????

Will I still be able to deal commander damage?

  • Yes, provided your commander is phased in and dealing combat damage. Phasing does not modify how the creature deals damage.

If I give it phasing is it immediately phased out or not?

  • Your creature will not immediately phase out. Phasing in/out occurs during the untap step, unless an ability specifically directs you to phase out a permanent (for example, when Teferi's Protection resolves, it directs you to phase out all your permanents).

And on my first untap phase does it phase in or out?

  • At the beginning of your untap step, all phased-in creatures with phasing you control will phase out. Simultaneously, any phased-out creatures you controlled when they phased out will phase in. On your first untap step, your Commander will still be phased-in and will have phasing due to Cloak of Invisibility , so it will phase out.

In addition to phasing, there is also "indirect phasing" - all Auras and Equipment attached to a creature with phasing will phase in/out alongside that creature, remaining attached to that creature.

I mention that because you're building voltron, so that is a relevant rules point.
