Question concerning Thespian's Stage and Cabal Coffers
Asked by Bantha1342 6 years ago
If I use the second ability of Thespian's Stage to make a copy of Cabal Coffers, does Thespian's Stage remain a copy until I pay the extra mana to change it for upcoming turns or is it just for the one turn I pay the 2 mana? Thanks in advance for any direction.

Thanks Gidgetimer. So I can buy a 3 dollar card that copies a 31 dollar Cavern of Souls or Maze of Ith? That's a pretty good bargain considering the powers of some lands, especially against "Prison Decks."

Cavern of Souls will be a Thespian's Stage when copied with Thespian's Stage. Since Thespian's Stage does not enter the battlefield as a copy of Cavern of Souls, there is no chosen creature type, therefore, the second ability will produce unusable mana.
When copying a permanent, any choices that have been made for that permanent arent copied. Instead, if an object enters the battlefield as a copy of another permanent, the objects controller will get to make any as [this] enters the battlefield choices for it.
If a pair of linked abilities are copied, those abilities will be similarly linked to one another on the object that copied them. One ability refers only to actions that were taken or objects that were affected by the other. They cant be linked to any other ability, regardless of what other abilities the copy may currently have or may have had in the past. See rule 607, Linked Abilities.

Nothing on Thespian's Stage gives an end to the copy effect, so that means it lasts until it leaves the battlefield or you make it a copy of something else.
