Question about Stack and Priority.

Asked by MegrimMan 9 years ago

So my opponent casts a Xenagos, God of Revels and I then add Rakshasa's Disdain to the stack. I have ten cards in my graveyard, and my opponent has seven untapped mana, one tapped with a Market Festival, and an untapped Voyaging Satyr. Since I still have priority, can I then add a Jeskai Charm to return said Voyaging Satyr to his hand before he can use it to get the required mana to counter the earlier Rakshasa's Disdain? If not, does that mean you can only add one spell/ability to the stack at a time?

This is my first time asking a question here. My apologies if I didn't format everything properly.

Thanks!

When casting spells, you can keep prority.

You could CAST Jeskai Charm to return the Voyaging Satyr to the top of his library, but your opponent could simply tap Voyaging Satyr and use it's ability in response to your Jeskai Charm; objects on the stack only resolve when everybody passes priority.

I would suggest doing it this way:
Oponent casts Xenagos. You cast charm. Charm resolves. You cast disdain. Disdain resolves countering Xenagos.

But remember, the charm would be in the graveyard also so it would add to the amount the opponent would have to pay.

pskinn01, that would require your opponent to be really unfocused on the game, to just let a creature get taken out without using it to it's fullest. They could still use Voyaging Satyr's ability to untap their enchanted land in response to Jeskai Charm being cast.

Seraphicate: Yes, but with the charm in the graveyard, the opponent would need 11 mana..which they would not have. Unless there is something Im missing.

pskinn01, oh, didn't notice that while typing, I stand corrected.

Rakshasa's Disdain checks to determine X on its resolution so X would be 11 no matter if you cast the Jeskai Charm before you cast it or after you cast it but before it resolves. It is still a good habit to get into to add one thing at a time to the stack and allow it to resolve so that your opponent has to make choices with as little information as possible. There are only a few corner cases where you will ever want to respond to your own spells.
