Question about Morph/Megamorph and Spells/Priority

Asked by MegrimMan 8 years ago

Here's the situation.

My opponent casts a Den Protector face down for it's morph cost, three colorless, with a Deathmist Raptor in his graveyard. I cast a Lightning Strike on his face down Den Protector. Can he then activate the Megamorph ability, triggering Deathmist Raptor from the graveyard before the Lightning Strike resolves and returning another card from his graveyard to his hand?

Thanks.

He can. After a spell is cast players still get priority and can pay morph costs. Both abilities will trigger and go onto the stack on top of the Lightning Strike. They will resolve first and then the Strike will resolve.

Yes.

Turning a permanent face up for its morph cost is a special action. It doesn't use the stack, and you can't respond to it. The triggered abilities will go off, and your opponent will be able to resolve them before Lightning Strike itself resolves.

Even if it were an activated ability of some kind or otherwise used the stack, your opponent would still have the advantage because responding to your Lightning Strike would put the morph ability on top of the stack and allow it to resolve first.
