Question about Distant Melody interaction with artifacts

Asked by Kaleidescope 6 years ago

Distant Melody

If you pick artifact as the creature type would you also draw a card for each non-creature artifact that you have in play?

PlattBonnay says... Accepted answer #1

Artifact is a card type, not a creature type, so you cannot choose "artifact" for Distant Melody.

No, and no. Artifact is not a creature type, it's a supertype. Creature types are Elf, Warrior, Kithkin, Wizard, etc. Hope that helps.

"Artifact" isn't a creature type, it's a card type so you can't choose it for Distant Melody. Creature types are things like Elves, Humans, Snakes and the like and they appear after the "-" on a creature card. So, for example, Vector Asp has the card types of "Artifact" and "Creature" and the creature type of "Snake".

@vishnarg, artifact isn't a supertype either. Supertypes are things like Basic, Legendary and Snow.

For future reference Kaleidescope, questions about rules interactions should go in the Rules Q&A forum, conveniently located on the menu bar up top, second to last.

Oh I did not know that @Lame_Duck! But really that's talking semantics at that point. Interesting though!

The distinction isn't entirely semantic; it matters for things like Tarmogoyf and Delirium cards.

You can't choose artifact as the creature type. Artifact is a card type, not a creature type. However, you could choose a creature type of an artifact creature.
