Question about Diabolic Servitude trigger

Asked by abenz419 7 years ago

If I cast Diabolic Servitude and return a creature and have Nim Deathmantle on the battlefield, when that creature dies can I stack the triggers so that I can pay the cost for Nim Deathmantle and have the creature return before it's exiled by Diabolic Servitude? Also, if so would the Diabolic Servitude still return to my hand?

Yes, this works. The abilities trigger at the same time, so because you control both of them you get to decide what order to put them onto the stack. You can have the Deathmantle's ability resolve first and return the creature to the battlefield. Servitude will still return to your hand, because that part of its ability isn't dependent on whether or not you actually exiled the creature card from your graveyard.

Though not the OP, I have an additional question related to this interaction. If I bounce or otherwise remove Diabolic Servitude from play in response to its ETB trigger, would the creature it reanimates still be subject to exile if it later dies?

No, it won't. When that creature dies, the Diabolic Servitude that originally put it onto the battlefield no longer exists, so there's no "exile it" ability to be triggered (even if you replay the same Diabolic Servitude card, the game treats it as a different object because it changed zones).
