question about Cytoplast Manipulator and Marchesa, the Black Rose

Asked by abenz419 9 years ago

If I have Marchesa, the Black Rose in play and move the last +1/+1 counter off of Cytoplast Manipulator with it's graft ability, will it return with marchesa's last ability? Basically what I'm asking is, if I move the last counter off it will the game recognize that it had a +1/+1 counter before it died?

The Manipulator didn't have a +1/+1 counter when it died. You removed that counter, making it a 0/0. Marchesa's ability won't bring it back.

ok I kinda figured that's how it worked because that makes sense, I just wasn't sure if this was one of those instances where the game would go back and check previous known information and still see the counter. It seemed a little out there but I wasn't sure.

Even last known information shows it as a 0/0.

You remove the last counter through the resolution of the triggered ability of Graft. Then state-based actions are checked and see a creature with 0 toughness and put it into the graveyard. It is absolutely a 0/0 on the battlefield before it dies even if not for very long.
