Prowess and Ferocious

Asked by DarkAurora7 8 years ago

If I have a Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest on the battlefield, and I cast Stubborn Denial to counter a spell, does Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest's prowess ability activate before Stubborn Denial checks for a creature with 4 or greater power?

Yes; Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest's triggered ability is put onto the stack on top of Stubborn Denial. That is because it is triggered by casting (as opposed to entering the battlefield or resolving). Heroism and abilities triggered by casting are similar.

The prowess trigger will resolve first, making him a 4/3. When Stubborn Denial moves to resolve afterwards, the Ferocious condition is met, changing its effect.

Note that prowess is a triggered ability. Triggered abilities triggered. Only activated abilities are activated.
