Progenitus

If I play Progenitus and my opponent plays Damnation can this card destroy Progenitus

Yes. This is because the card targets the field and not the specific catd. Protection from only protects from targeted spells.

Damnation does not target the field. It's a global effect with no target at all. It affects all creatures.

Protection from X means it can't be:

  • Dealt damage by X

  • Enchanted by X

  • Blocked by X

  • Targeted by X

Known by the acronym DEBT.

Since nothing about Damnation violates DEBT, Progenitus will be destroyed.

I would believe protection from everything means exactly that. Protection from EVERYTHING... but that's just my personal take on the ruling of the cards and would be how I would play it, even in friendlies.
