Progenitor mimic copy's an en-souled artifact

Asked by cornpie987387 6 years ago

If Progenitor Mimic copied a Liquimetal Coating that was a creature due to Ensoul Artifact, do you get another non creature Liquimetal Coating from Progenitor Mimics ability or do you get a creature one?

Copy effects only copy the base text of the card, plus anything written into the copy effect (e.g., Phyrexian Metamorph still being an artifact).

Notably, copy effects do NOT copy buffs, counters, "animated" status, or whether something is tapped.

Just a thought though...

Since Progenitor Mimic says "if this creature isn't a token,..." would you not get any more tokens. After all, since the Progenitor Mimic is now just a regular non-creature Liquimetal Coating it no longer fulfills that clause.

Effects that include a self-reference of the form "this [type]" refer to the source object, regardless of whether that object is that type at present.

Progenitor Mimic's ability will still allow you to create a token copy of whatever Progenitor Mimic happens to be when the ability resolves.
