Polymorphist's Jest vs Legendary rule

Asked by keyno 9 years ago

I real somewhere recently that when a player uses Polymorphist's Jest , all effected creatures retain their types like legendary, enchantment, artifact ect. If so, does that mean several differently named legendary creatures would be forced to "sacrifice to 1" when they all became "Frog".

This comes up surprisingly often at our FNM

The Legend rule only comes into effect if you have multiple legendary permanents with the same name under your control. Polymorphist's Jest does not affect the creatures' name: only their abilities, color, type, and base power and toughness.

Also, "legendary" is a supertype, not a type. The other 3 supertypes are "Ongoing", "Snow", and "World". Supertypes are independent of the permanent's type and subtype; changing either of them will not affect its supertype.
