Please explain rule 306.7

I have Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, its my opponent' s turn. Opponent has a PW on his side of the battlefield, then he casts a non-creature spell. Ruric triggers, can the controller of ruric redirect the damage to the oppnent's PW? 306.7 PW Ruling
It is also worth noting that this rule will soon change (date unknown, but probably over the summer with Core 2019), making this interaction no longer possible.

As all of this is speculative, please take it with a grain of salt, but...
It was stated somewhere that the iconic Lightning Bolt for example would be errata'd to 'target creature, player or planeswalker' along with a lot, and I mean a lot, of errata's.
It would be quite logical that everything that can target a player would be errata'd to target player or planeswalker (as long as the ability makes sense of course, planeswalkers can't discard cards i.e.).
If so, Ruric Thar, the Unbowed would still be able to do the above.
Also, lorewise, or game introduction wise (idk) we are planeswalkers already ;)

So Rule 306.7 as I found on the internet states:
If noncombat damage would be dealt to a player by a source controlled by an opponent, that opponent may have that source deal that damage to a planeswalker the first player controls instead. This is a redirection effect (see rule 614.9) and is subject to the normal rules for ordering replacement effects (see rule 616). The opponent chooses whether to redirect the damage as the redirection effect is applied.
Basically you can always redirect your damage to your opponent's planeswalker thanks to this redirection rule effect. Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is no exception to this, because you are the controller of the damage source and thus you get to choose whether or not you want to apply the redirection effect when Ruric's trigger resolves.
