Planeswalkers "+" ability and Doubling Season

Asked by Dreno33 6 years ago

I asked this question 4 years ago and the consensus was that the "+" ability is a COST, not an EFFECT, therefore Doubling Season does NOT double the counters when "+"ing a planeswalker.

However, today I just saw on MTGO that it doubled the counters when "+"ing a planewalker. It literally added 4 counters from a +2 ability, nothing else on the board that could have possibly done this.

Did the rules change since then? Is this a bug?

Epochalyptik, summoning you because you commented on the rulings of this last time. I am so confused now. it would make sense if it was simply a bug, but it happened multiple times in multiple games...

If that's really what happened then it's a bug. Doubling Season doesn't double counters or tokens granted by costs, only by effects.

Do you remember which planeswalker it was?

I just now remembered: it's on the known issues list as a bug, and it's been there for a loooong time. Your opponent may have been purposefully exploiting it.
