Says I can only use it for multicolor spells.Would I be able to use it for Alchemist's Refuge as it has a multi color cost?
...or am I damned to the text as it is written?
No you cannot. Pillar of the Paruns states that you can only spend the mana on multicolored spells. Alchemist's Refuge's activated ability is NOT a spell. It is an ability. Spells are only cards that can be cast. Which in all cases; every card that is NOT a Land card is a spell while it is on the stack (Land's don't use the stack, therefore, they're not spells).

No. The ability on Alchemist's Refuge is an activated ability, not a spell.
