Perplexing Chimera and cast triggers

Asked by MilliNox 7 years ago

Let's say I'm controlling a Perplexing Chimera and my opponent casts a creature spell with a cast trigger, like Kozilek, the Great Distortion.

Is it correct that I would only gain control of the creature spell, but not the cast trigger?

You would be correct.

Both Perplexing Chimera and Kozilek, the Great Distortion have abilities that trigger on cast. Because of APNAP order, your opponent's Kozilek's ability will go on the stack first, then the Chimera's. Both abilities are already on the stack and exist independently of the source.

Say you choose to exchange control of the Chimera and the Kozilek spell. The ability will resolve and you will make the exchange before Kozilek's ability resolves. Once the ability is done resolving, Kozilek's on-cast ability will go to resolve and your opponent will draw back up to 7 cards. Finally, Kozilek will resolve and will enter the battlefield under your control.
