Ordeal of Purphoros

Asked by AndyB23 9 years ago

A quick question regarding Ordeal of Purphoros . If I cast a second Ordeal after my creature already has 3 or more +1/+1 counters on it, when I attack, I am assuming I sacrifice my second Ordeal immediately, making it in essence a sorcery speed Lightning Strike .

Did I read this card right?

Yes. Each Ordeal of Purphoros 's ability will trigger. Each resolution will cause you to add a +1/+1 counter and sacrifice the Aura (the ability only cares about the number of counters, not how they got there). When you sacrifice one Ordeal, its second ability will trigger and bolt your target.

Kind of. Remember that effects occur in the order they're printed in. The "sacrifice Ordeal of Purphoros " part of the triggered ability comes after putting another +1/+1 counter on the attacking creature.

So you'll attack with the creature and the first ability will trigger. You'll put a +1/+1 counter on the creature, and then the ability will check if that creature has 3 or more counters. It will, so then the ability will cause you to sacrifice the Ordeal. This will then trigger the second triggered ability.
