Oracle of Mul Daya's additonal land abilities

Asked by araluen7 9 years ago

If I had Oracle of Mul Daya in play, and I play my land for turn, and then my additional land from it, then either exile it with Deadeye Navigator (or similar effect) or bounce it to my hand to replay it, would I get a 2nd additional land to play?

No, this doesn't work.

  • 305.2a To determine whether a player can play a land, compare the number of lands the player can play this turn with the number of lands he or she has already played this turn (including lands played as special actions and lands played during the resolution of spells and abilities). If the number of lands the player can play is greater, the play is legal.

Basically, before you play a land, compare the number of lands you've played this turn to the number of effects that allow you to play additional lands. If the first one is less than the second one, you can play another land. Multiple copies of Oracle of Mul Daya only stack if you control multiple copies at the same time.

Note that the rules about this have changed within the past year. GreatSword's explanation is the current ruling, but it used to work the way that was described in the original question. Some players may not yet be aware of the change.
