old errata and new abilities

Asked by koylucumert 8 years ago

so in old wall cards (such as Glacial Wall) it says walls cant attack as an errata. and changeling creatures (such as Avian Changeling) are also walls. does that mean creatures with the ability changeling have defender?

No. The "walls can't attack" rule was changed a long time ago. Now, no creature type is implicitly associated with any abilities. If a creature has defender, it can't attack. If it doesn't have defender, then that restriction doesn't apply.

Always consult the Oracle to find answers for this.

Glacial Wall has been given errata to give it the creature type Wall and the ability "Defender".

Having the ability changeling does not grant "defender" to Avian Changeling because "Defender" is not a creature type.

Note also that cards are always used according to their Oracle text, which is available in WOTC's Gatherer database. Although your older cards may have the old text printed on them, they're played according to their newest rules text in Gatherer.
