Name a card, reveal x cards until you find the card...

Asked by rshistorysmuf 4 years ago

I don't get this. If I say name a card, knowing it is not in your deck does this mean you lose all cards to the graveyard etc.

EG: any colour except black, reveal dark ritual? There goes your library, equally, if black and already played a dark ritual. Or you have played x card and it is in graveyard and therefore, name it knowing it is not in the library therefore lose the library to the graveyard.

I could even pick a lame card like Brass Man... cards that appear to name x card to reveal seam stupid in this case.

There is no card with the title's text in it.

What is this post?

None of your descriptions makes sense.

To continue what SynergyBuild said, there are no cards to my knowledge that would work in the way you described. Effects remotely similar to what you describe e.g. Proteus Staff don’t send cards to the graveyard. In those situations the cards are usually sent to the bottom of the library.

Perhaps you mean Spoils of the Vault etc? None of these have the opponent choose the name. The casting player chooses, and therefore it's a risky tutor (unplayable in EDH).

Demonic Consultation ? But it looks through the whole deck, not the top X?

You do what the card says to do. It's that simple.

If a card says to reveal cards from the top of your library until "X", then it will tell you what to do with the cards afterwards, e.g. Proteus Staff .

If the card tells you to exile cards off the top of your library until "X", then you do that, e.g. Tainted Pact . It the card then doesn't say to do something with the exiled cards, they stay in exile.

If a card tells you to reveal the top X cards, you do that. Again, it will tell you what to do with the cards afterwards, e.g. Genesis Wave .

You won't come across any cards that don't tell you what to do with the revealed cards afterwards, except for poorly fan made cards on sites like MTGCardSmith. And for old cards, remember to check the Oracle text, as the wording on a lot of cards has been clarified there.

The description seems a bit confused here... Anyways, you got me thinking of Tunnel Vision . The inly difference is that, as previous users said, you are told what to do with the revealed cards.

If I name a card not present in my opponent's deck when playing Tunnel Vision I am basically wasting 6 mana for nothing.

Anything that can remove a card from graveyard to the bottom of a library is a winner here.

Oh yeah rshistorysmuf, I literally have an EDH deck that tries to do that as one of the wincons!

For it I used Gonti, Lord of Luxury , Hinder , Spell Crumple , Junktroller ... But there are many others!
