Myr Superion+Chancellor of the Tangle

Asked by JaceFace 12 years ago

Ok so this was just something I thought of the other day and was curious about, I don't think it works but .......

So I draw my opening hand and I have 2 Simian Spirit Guide or Elvish Spirit Guide allow a turn 1 Superion?

Don't really care either way and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work, just wanted to see others opinions and maybe get some concrete rulings...

Thanks TappedOut Community!

Yes, the mana from the Chancellors count as mana from creatures.

The Spirit Guides work, too. Nice idea!

I would guess no because it seems like the mana would have to be produced by creature permanents and not creature spells.

I guess we'll just have to wait for the oracle ruling.

user:DonMiguel is correct here. A thing is only a creature (or an artifact, or an enchantment, or a land, or a Planeswalker) when it's on the battlefield. Anywhere else, it's a creature card (or artifact card, etc.).

As an example, look at the Oracle wording on the card AEther Tide :

As an additional cost to cast ther Tide, discard X creature cards.Return X target creatures to their owners' hands.
Both abilities of the card make use of creatures. The first part has you discarding from your hand, so they're called creature cards. The second part has you manipulating permanents on the battlefield, so they're called creatures. So, unfortunately, Chancellors and Spirit Guides won't work to cast Myr Superion.

Rules to support MagnorCriol:

110.1. A permanent is a card or token on the battlefield.

110.4. There are five permanent types: artifact, creature, enchantment, land, and planeswalker.

To further push home the point, consider Morbid Plunder . It specifically points toward creature cards and not creatures, because creatures only exist on the battlefield.

you could use Inkmoth Nexus to bring him out though if you have four mana, two being the nexus lands, then tap for one each animate the blinkmoth creatures they are still lands then use them to provide mana for the superion.

I guess I could reveal the two Chancellors and cast two Llanowar Elves on turn one and just play a turn two Superion.haha

The best option would be a Joraga Treespeaker . But, you could also do it with only one Llanowar Elves since you'll most likely have a forest for turn one as well.
