murder and trepanation blade

Asked by Ravenking 8 years ago

so I am attacking using a creature with Trepanation Blade and my opponent plays murder. my question is this: does trepanation blade's ability get stopped or is that an automatic affect triggered by me declaring him as an attacker, and murder is resolved in the next step?

Once the ability triggers, it's too late to stop it by killing the equipped creature. An ability exists independently of its source and of the conditions that triggered or process that activated it. Removing the source does not counter the ability.

Note, however, that if your opponent plays Murder before you attack (this includes situations in which your opponent wanted to Murder the equipped creature at the beginning of combat but was not given the opportunity to do so), then the creature will die before attacking and the ability will never trigger.

In no case does Murder resolve in the next step.
