Multiple Mizzix of the Izmagnus on the field

Asked by ShinakoX2 6 years ago

I tried searching, but I couldn't find any answers for this.

If I have Mizzix of the Izmagnus and a copy of it on the field, like from a Rite of Replication, and I have 5 Experience Counters, how much of a cost reduction do I get on my spells? Does each Mizzix apply individually, thus giving me a 10-mana reduction?

Secondary question: If Mizzix is on the field, and I cast All Is Dust, Mizzix will be sacrificed before her trigger can resolve, so I won't get an Experience Counter, correct?

Never mind, I realized that only a single Mizzix can exist on the field due to the "Legendary rule"

But this is still a valid question, because of a neat card printed in Kamigawa, Mirror Gallery :)

If you have two Mizzix, both will apply separately. For a similar example, look at Goblin Electromancer. If you have two Electromancers, the reduction from both will apply. The same concept works here, only the reduction amount depends on the number of experience counters. It's also worth noting that if you were to cast, say, Stolen Identity with 5 experience counters, both Mizzix will trigger and you'll get two more counters for a total of 7.

As for the second question, the trigger will resolve before the spell because the ability triggers off of the spell being cast. It would play out like this: You have Mizzix on the field with however many counters, let's say 6. You apply go to cast All Is Dust and apply the reduction, paying for it and putting it on the stack. Mizzix's ability triggers when the spell goes on the stack, and the ability goes on the stack above it. Since the stack resolves in FILO order, First In Last Out, the ability will resolve, giving you your 7th counter, and finally All Is Dust will resolve causing all colored permanents, including Mizzix, to be sacrificed.
