Multiple blocking with first strike creatures...

Asked by FierceTierce 8 years ago

If I choose to attack with a creature without first strike and my opponent blocks with multiple creatures that do have first strike, will my opponent's creatures ALL deal their damage to my creature before he hits one of them, or will one first strike creature deal damage to my creature, who deals its damage to the first defender, then the second does first strike followed by my creatures damage on it, and so on? Example: I attack with a Khalni Hydra and my opponent has 3 Mindsparkers. He blocks with all of them. Does my Khalni Hydra get killed before doing damage, or does it take 2 of the Mindsparkers with it?

If one or more attacking or blocking creatures have first strike or double strike, the game handles combat differently.

In the first combat damage step, only creatures that have first strike or double strike will deal damage. These creatures will all deal their combat damage simultaneously.

Then, if any creatures remain in combat that currently have double strike or that didn't have first strike as the first combat damage step began, then there is another combat damage step in which those creatures deal their damage.

Your Khalni Hydra will be destroyed after the three Mindsparkers deal their combat damage in the first combat damage step. Khalni Hydra won't be able to deal damage to any of them.
