Mirrorwing Dragon and Silverfur Partisan

Asked by Aftertherevolution 7 years ago

I thought I knew how this would work but playing it on Xmage seems to not work. Bug or am I missing something?

Game is going well, I have on the board:

I cast Expedite on Mirrorwing Dragon and it then copies to the three wolves.

I expect that because three wolves have become the target of an instant spell that I will have 3 wolf tokens generated. But it doesn't happen.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe technically the copies aren't instants or sorceries? But they are just spells? That doesn't seem right though...

What am I missing here?

this makes me think I am right:

706.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original objects characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face-down status, and by as . . . enters the battlefield and as . . . is turned face up abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.

Is it possible that copies are just being applied to other creatures and not targeting them? Is that an actual thing?

Everything sure makes it look like you'd get the 3 tokens, seems like you should file a bug report.

That's interesting. Does Xmage get it's rules code from the same place as Magic Duels?

and good to know I have it right. At least in RL it'll be ok.
